Former Indian cricketer Aakash Chopra has called for inclusion of young pacer Umran Malik in Team India squad. The cricket pundit further said that he is baffled how the 22-year-old has been dropped suddenly from Team India setup and is nowhere in team’s scheme of things.
In a video shared on his YouTube channel, Chopra was asked whether Malik deserve a spot in the T20 World Cup 2024 squad.
While Chopra admitted that the young speedster need to work hard to get back in T20I setup, he expressed his shock on Malik’s absence from India A squad.
“He [Umran Malik] was in the team a few months back. Played in the West Indies series and then he was nowhere to be seen. He has been expelled from India squad like a fly out of milk. I know it is not a good example to use but you get the drift”, Aakash Chopra said.
“How is this possible that a player who was seen in Team India squad 3 months back is not even in India A team. It is wrong in my opinion”, the former Indian opener futher added.
Notably, Umran Malik last played for India in July, when he appeared in an ODI series against West Indies. The 22-year-old played first two matches in the 3-match series and went wicketless in both the games.
The pacer has not been included in India A squad that will tour South Africa to play two four-day matches against South Africa A and one inter-squad three-day match.
