“Don’t think Shreyas Iyer will get Rs 20 crore” – Akash Chopra’s prediction for IPL 2025 auction

Among active captains, no one has more IPL wins (38) than Shreyas Iyer.

Everyone agrees that Shreyas Iyer will be a hot commodity at the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 mega auction. A middle-order, who has been successful at two franchises and won the IPL trophy last season. Who won’t want to get that guy on their team?

Shreyas Iyer treated unfairly by DC and KKR

Former Indian cricketer Aakash Chopra reckons Shreyas will be the most expensive batter to be bought at the IPL 2025 auction. He feels Shreyas hasn’t been treated fairly. First, let go by the Delhi Capitals right after helping them reach their first-ever IPL Final in 2020, and then the Kolkata Knight Riders did the same thing to him on October 31, announcing that they aren’t retaining him after he won them an IPL trophy after 10 years.

Shreyas Iyer auction price

Chopra feels that Shreyas should start a huge bidding war and every team would want a piece of him, but getting Rs 20 crore is just way too much for him. It’s getting into double digits but getting paid almost equal to Virat Kohli (Rs 21 crore); that’s something he can’t imagine.

“Justice hasn’t been done with him. He’s not getting as many chances as he deserves. He was Kolkata’s captain last season, the winning team, but things didn’t pan out well, and he’s come to the auction. I don’t think he’ll get Rs 20 crore, but he’ll go in double digits. “A lot of teams will be interested in him. He can get Rs 12, 13, 14, or 15 crore and might be Delhi’s next captain,” Chopra said on his YouTube channel.

Potential Delhi Capitals return

Reports have suggested that Delhi Capitals (DC) want Shreyas back. This comes after they let him go after the IPL 2020 season and instead chose to invest in Rishabh Pant as their long-time captain. But a change in management from JSW to GMR Group has seen them let Pant go as well, and this has opened the door for Shreyas.

One can’t forget that he has the fourth most runs for DC and is their third most successful captain in terms of wins registered. Getting him back could work in Delhi’s favour as they look to rebuild their team. Remember, DC’s only IPL Final came under his captaincy.
