Director of Cricket for the Rajasthan Royals Kumar Sangakkara became the most recent foreign IPL coach to express his disinterest in coaching India Cricket team. Sangakara’s comments came following LSG manager Justin Langer and DC head coach Ricky Ponting rejecting the idea of coaching Rohit Sharma’s team.
Sangakara ‘not interested’
Sangakara denied any rumors of switching to a full-time coaching role with the Indian cricket team. He reaffirmed his commitment to his role with the Indian Premier League (IPL) franchise. Sangakkara claimed that BCCI had not contacted him. He further claimed that he lacked the time to dedicate himself fully to coaching for India.

“I have not been approached and I don’t have time to commit full-time to an India coaching job. Happy with my stint with Royals and let’s see how it goes,” Sangakkara said in the post-match press conference after his team’s defeat in IPL Qualifier 2.
No foreign coach: Jay Shah
Notably, BCCI Secretary Jay Shah refuted rumors that the board had approached any former Australian cricket players to be the next head coach of India on Friday. Jay Shah highlighted the need for a candidate with a “deep understanding” of the game’s structure in the nation. He also hinted that Rahul Dravid’s replacement might be an Indian.
