Former BCCI selector Sarandeep Singh has advised young sensation Tilak Varma to get his eye in before going out all guns blazing. Sarandeep said this after Varma failed to make a mark in the IND vs IRE 2nd T20I. The off-spinner stated that pitches in Ireland have more grass, movement, and bounce. Hence, the southpaw should take his time and get accustomed to the conditions.
Varma showcased his talent in his debut series against the West Indies. The left-hander scored 173 runs in the five-match series and ended the series as India’s highest run scorer.

“Tilak Varma should do one simple thing: go and observe first how the wicket is behaving. Where he made his debut in the West Indies, the conditions were somewhat similar to India and the wicket behaved in a similar manner. There, he could play shots in a certain way. However, now that he is in Ireland, the conditions are different. The wicket is harder, there is grass on it, moisture is present, and there are overcast conditions. The ball moves, and there is more bounce. So, he should take a bit of time, face 15-16 balls, and then start playing his shots,” Sarandeep said.
The Hyderabad cricketer’s temperament impressed the Indian selectors so much that the youngster was added to the Asia Cup 2023 squad ahead of a much more experienced campaigner in Sanju Samson.

After having a merry time in the West Indies, Tilak Varma has struggled in Ireland so far. The 20-year-old has scored just 2 runs in two matches, getting out on a duck in the 1st T20I while falling to Barry McCarthy in both encounters.
