Chennai Super Kings arguably have one of the best spin unit among all other teams in IPL 2025. The five-time champions invested heavily on spinners in the mega auction, buying Ravichandran Ashwin, Noor Ahmad, Rachin Ravindra, Shreyas Gopal among others. Given that the surface in Chepauk heavily favours spinners, their spin overload in the squad is justified. But are they the best spin unit in the upcoming season?
CSK’s spin powerhouse in IPL 2025
Ashwin, who started his IPL career with CSK, has been reunited with the franchise. He was bagged for Rs 9.75 crore after being released by RR ahead of the mega auction. The Tamil Nadu spinner has 180 wickets from 212 IPL matches. What makes the deal even more sweeter is his familiarity with the conditions in Chennai. He will spearhead the spin unit for Gaikwad and co. in the upcoming season.
Next on the list is Ashwin’s bowling partner Jadeja. The duo, who previously paired up in Tests to torment other sides, have now been reunited in the colours of Yellove. A veteran in his own right, the southpaw has 160 wickets from 240 IPL matches. Like Ashwin, Jadeja too is very much familiar with the conditions at Chepauk, given that he has played majority of his IPL career for CSK and at the same venue.
Apart from the addition of an experienced Shreyas Gopal, CSK also boast of a formidable overseas duo of Noor Ahmad and Rachin. The Afghanistan spinner has a phenomenal record in T20s, with 150 wickets to his name from 132 matches. In IPL, he has 24 wickets from 23 matches, having played all games for GT previously. Rachin is more like a part-time bowler, but can be put to good use on spin-favouring surfaces.

Are CSK the best spin unit in IPL 2025?
It is pertinent to point out that there are other teams who boast of a strong spin unit apart from CSK. KKR, the defending champions, have Moeen Ali, Sunil Narine, mystery spinner Varun Chakravarthy and Chetan Sakariya in their squad. SRH, who were runners-up last year, have the likes of Adam Zampa, Rahul Chahar apart from part-timers like Abhishek Sharma and Travis Head.
Gujarat Titans are another team whose spin unit is a force to be reckoned with. Spearheaded by Rashid Khan, the team boasts of a strong spin unit featuring the likes of Rahul Tewatia, Washington Sundar, Sai Kishore, Sai Sudharasan, Kariim Janat among others.
LSG, DC, MI, PBKS and RCB are some of the teams that lack spin options in their squad. RR will mainly depend on overseas stars Wanindu Hasaranga and Maheesh Theekshana in terms of spin. It would be hard to state that CSK surely have the best spin unit. But by the looks of it, they are more formidable compared to all other sides.
