Dinesh Karthik claims Indian cricketers should be allowed to play overseas T20 leagues after retirement

Dinesh Karthik retired after playing IPL 2024 for RCB

Former India Cricket Team star Dinesh Karthik recently took part in the SA20. He played for Paarl Royals and has claimed that Indian players who have retired should be allowed to take part in T20 tournaments that are held overseas. After IPL 2024, Dinesh Karthik decided to hang up his boots from Indian cricket.

The BCCI has a strict policy. No Indian players are allowed to participate in other T20 tournaments. They can only do so after retiring from Indian cricket or by changing their citizenship.

IPL is BCCI’s Crown Jewel

“I am a big believer that the IPL should be the crown jewel for the BCCI. It is at the moment. The IPL is the crown jewel of world cricket. For that to maintain their status quo as No. 1, I believe Indian cricketers shouldn’t be allowed to play in overseas leagues unless they are retired. The players can take their call, because if they feel they are done with IPL, they can move on to other leagues. I completely stand along with the BCCI on that front,” Karthik told the reporters at the SA20.

Karthik claimed that the Indian Premier League (IPL) is BCCI’s crown jewel and that is how it should be maintained. He further advocated BCCI’s stance of not allowing Indian players to take part in other T20 leagues across the globe. He claimed that India’s financial structure is enough to provide financial stability for the stars.

“I think there is a lot of cricket to be played in India. Indian cricketers should be allowed to play once they retire. I believe that is the right way to go. I believe SA20 or any other league, for that matter, will be more than happy to work with a couple of retired from playing for India,” Karthik concluded.
