Abhishek Sharma of Sunrisers Hyderabad on Wednesday played a key part in his team’s first victory of IPL 2024 in the SRH vs MI match. Abhishek, who scored 63 of 23 balls, also etched his name in the history books by becoming the fastest batter to score a half-century for SRH. Abhishek took just 18 balls to score the 50. Although MI gave quite a chase to IPL’s highest ever score of 277, they fell short by 31 runs in the end. In the post-match press conference, Abhishek explained his mindset and the message they had received from the team management.
On Fastest 50
“To be honest I did not realise that I had scored the fastest 50 for SRH. Only after I got out did I get to know that I had scored the quickest 50. Of course I enjoyed it,” Abhishek said.
Team management’s message for batters
Abhishek said the team management had asked the batters to go out and express themselves.
“The message for all the batters from the team management was to go out and express ourselves. Travis is one of my favourite batters and I really enjoyed batting with him today.
“The message from Cummins and Dan (Daniel Vettori) has always been to go out and express ourselves. We were a bit worried before the start of the season because SRH had a poor outing last season. But the energy and the positivity they have bought is really good,” Abhishek said.

Had faith in our bowlers: Abhishek
Mumbai Indians gave quite the chase to SRH’s total of 277. Although they ultimately lost by 31 runs, they still managed to put up 246 runs on board. Abhishek was asked if they were worried by MI’s onslaught. Abhishek said, “When Tilak Verma and Hardik Pandya were batting, or even Tim David, we were a bit concerned. Although we knew our bowlers were prepared for these kind of situations and they executed their plans really well today.“
