The IPL witnessed a historic moment on May 5th as the PBKS vs. CSK match at Dharamshala's HPCA Stadium became the first on a hybrid pitch in India.

The Indian Premier League (IPL) witnessed a groundbreaking moment on Sunday (May 5), during the match between Punjab Kings (PBKS) and Chennai Super Kings (CSK) at the HPCA Stadium in Dharamsala. This IPL 2024 match marked the historic first instance of a ‘hybrid’ pitch being used in a competitive cricket match under the accreditation of the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI).

A revolutionary step for Indian cricket

This development signifies a major milestone for Indian cricket and is expected to have a significant impact on the quality of cricket played on Indian pitches. The introduction of the ‘SISGrass’ hybrid pitch, made by a Netherlands-based company, reflects the BCCI’s commitment to improving cricket infrastructure in India. This, in turn, will elevate the playing experience for both players and spectators.
