Deserving candidate: Agarkar reveals why Suryakumar Yadav was promoted as Captain and not Hardik Pandya

India needs a captain who can be available at most times - Ajit Agarkar reveals precise reason for selecting SKY as captain of India in T20Is

One of the main topics of discussion recently has been the selection of Suryakumar Yadav as India’s captain in T20Is. While Hardik Pandya was next in line to take the role, bur Ajit Agarkar revealed that they want a player who can remain fit all the time.

In the ICC T20 World Cup, it was Hardik Pandya who served as the deputy to Rohit Sharma. When the latter retired from T20Is, it was expected that Hardik would be the next player to take up the lead. But for the IND vs SL series, it was SKY who was made the captain and young Shubman Gill appointed as the vice captain.

Deserving SKY gets Captaincy

“He (SKY) is the deserving candidate. He is one of the best players. Hardik is still an important player for us. We want him to be a very important player for us. Fitness is an important factor which has been an issue for him. The fitness is a clear challenge and we want someone to be available throughout,” Ajit Agarkar said in the Press Conference.

Agarkar explained how India needs a captain who can be available for most of the time. And that is not the case with Hardik Pandya. The ace-allrounder has his fair share of injury concerns and thus as a result, Surya has been selected as the captain of Team India in the shortest format of the game.
