Demotion for in-form Ishan, Shubman Gill’s knock ENDS Kishan’s WC opening dream

Demotion for in-form Ishan, Shubman Gill’s knock ENDS Kishan’s WC opening dream

Gill, who struggled in both Tests and first two ODIs, returned to form with a brilliant 92-ball 85 in IND vs WI 3rd ODI.

India’s wicket-keeper batter Ishan Kishan has been in incredible form in the Caribbean tour, scoring 4 fifties in last five innings. Three of those fifties came as an opener in the India vs West Indies ODI series. With Shubman Gill struggling in first two ODIs, the push for Rohit-Kishan opening in World Cup were rising high. But it seems Kishan will have to face the demotion in batting order in the upcoming World Cup 2023.

While Kishan scored a brilliant 77 in the IND vs WI 3rd ODI, it was Shubman Gill’s 85-run knock that ended former’s chances on opening the batting alongside Rohit Sharma in the ODI World Cup 2023.

Gill, who struggled in both Tests and first two ODIs, returned to form with a brilliant 92-ball 85 and calmly put all the doubts, regarding his place as an opener, to bed.

Gill-Kishan opening highly unlikely: Aakash Chopra

Former Indian cricketer Aakash Chopra on Tuesday also echoed the same opinion and left out the option of playing Gill-Kishan as opening partners in the tournament.

“Ishan Kishan is unlikely to open the batting at the WC. I’ll be really surprised if Ishan Kishan and Shubman Gill open the batting and Rohit drops down to the middle order. I don’t agree with this at all. Should Virat Kohli drop down from No. 3, again absolutely no,” Aakash Chopra said.

Meanwhile, Team India registered a mammoth 200-run win against West Indies in 3rd ODI to lift the series 2-1. Shubman Gill was adjudged Player of the Match, while Ishan Kishan was declared Player of the Series for impressive batting performances.
