DPL 2024: Rishabh Pant & Ishant Sharma join Dilli 6, injured Mayank Yadav misses out

Rishabh Pant and Ishant Sharma, who both ply their trades at the Delhi Capitals (DC), will now play together at Purani Dilli 6 team as well in Delhi Premier League (DPL)

The inaugural Delhi Premier League (DPL) held its player draft on Friday, bringing together a wealth of cricketing talent from the nation’s capital. The most notable pick was undoubtedly Rishabh Pant, who is currently with the Indian team for the ongoing Sri Lankan series. Apart from this, Indian pace great Ishant Sharma, young talents in Harshit Rana and Ayush Badoni were also picked by the 6 franchises.

Purani Dilli 6 sweeping Pant & Ishant in

The draft, featuring 270 players with experience ranging from India’s senior and Under-19 teams to the IPL, saw six teams carefully selecting their squads. Purani Dilli 6 made waves by securing both Pant and Ishant, while North Delhi Strikers snapped up the in-form Harshit Rana. South Delhi Superstars prioritized batting prowess with Ayush Badoni as their first pick.

No Mayank Yadav!

One notable absence from the draft was fast bowler Mayank Yadav. The young speedster had set the IPL 2024 alight with his blistering pace for Lucknow Super Giants (LSG), consistently clocking speeds around 155 kmph. Yadav’s raw speed and ability to trouble even best of the batters and made him one of the most exciting prospects in Indian cricket.

Mayank Yadav’s performances in IPL 2024 were nothing short of sensational. The 21-year-old from Delhi consistently hit speeds that few Indian bowlers have ever achieved. His fastest delivery was clocked at a staggering 156.7 kmph, making him the fastest bowler in IPL 2024.The young pacer’s absence from the DPL draft is due to an injury, likely a precautionary measure to ensure his fitness for future considerations. He was also recently seen at the National Cricket Academy (NCA) for rehabilitation process.

Other Key Picks

  • North Delhi Strikers also secured Suyash Sharma, Delhi’s leading wicket-taker in the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy 2023.
  • East Delhi Riders picked up wicketkeeper Anuj Rawat and fast bowler Simarjeet Singh.
  • West Delhi Lions drafted experienced campaigners Navdeep Saini and Hrithik Shokeen.
  • South Delhi Superstars bolstered their lineup with Priyansh Arya, Delhi’s top run-scorer in last year’s Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy.

The inaugural Delhi Premier League promises to be an exciting platform for local talent to shine and potentially catch the eye of national selectors. With a mix of established stars and emerging players, the tournament is set to showcase the rich cricketing heritage of India’s capital city.
