Delhi Court grants divorce to Shikhar Dhawan on grounds of mental cruelty by wife

Shikhar Dhawan and Aesha Mukherjee tied the knot in October 2012. However, the couple decided to part ways in 2021.

A family court in Delhi has granted divorce to Indian cricketer Shikhar Dhawan from his estranged wife Aesha Mukerji, on the grounds of mental cruelty.

According to Bar and Bench website, the Delhi court accepted all the allegations made by Dhawan in his divorce petition against his wife on the ground that the wife did not defend herself.

The judge held Aesha accountable for causing Dhawan to mental agony by forcing him to live separately from his son. The court also granted visitation rights to Dhawan to meet his son for appropriate duration but refused to pass any order on permanent custody.

Notably, Dhawan and Ayesha got married in 2012 and welcomed their son Zoravar in 2014. The couple parted ways in 2021.

Furthermore, the court ordered Aesha to bring the child to India for visitation purposes, including overnight stays with Dhawan and his family members, at least during half of the school vacation period.

Insidesport

According to Dhawan’s plea, Aesha initially promised to live with him in India after marriage but went back to Australia due to her commitment to her ex-husband, with whom she shares two daughters.

In the plea, Dhawan also alleged that Aesha forced him to make her the owner of 99% of the three properties that he had purchased in Australia. She had also forced him to make her a joint owner in the other two properties.

The court also accepted Dhawan’s claim that Aesha requested financial support for her daughters’ well-being in Australia, leading Dhawan to increase the monthly payments from AU $15,500 to AU $17,500.

“Couldn’t see red flags”

Earlier this year, Dhawan opened up about his failed marriage and revealed that his mariage failed as he couldn’t see the red flags.

“I failed because the final decision is the person’s own. I don’t point fingers at others but I failed because I was not aware of that field,” Dhawan told Sports Tak in an interview.
