Sourav Ganguly: Ricky Ponting’s tenure as Delhi Capitals head coach is likely to be over when the 17th season of Indian Premier League (IPL) starts in 2024. Sourav Ganguly is all set to replace the former Australian captain as the coach of DC. Ponting, who has been in the coaching role for DC since 2018, failed to win the IPL trophy. Worst, DC finished last in IPL 2023 season, winning just five games.
Ganguly is currently the director of the DC team and is associated with the franchise for over two years. Stepping into the coaching role would be a seamless transition for the Southpaw.
According to reports in Sangbad Pratidin, Ganguly, who was mentor in the 2019 edition of IPL will take up the coaching role of DC. The southpaw has had a fair bit of success during his mentoring role with DC as it reached playoffs in the 2019 and 2020 editions. Ponting was coach at that time and the team performed well under his coaching and Shreyas Iyer’s captaincy.
