IPL 2023: Delhi Capitals are in crisis mode. With five successive losses to start the season and no end in sight to their woes, DC have called up two unsold players Abhimanyu Easwaran and Priyam Garg for trials. To name a few, Prithvi Shaw, Sarfaraz Khan and their entire Indian batting unit are struggling at the moment. That has forced DC to even look at options like Easwaran, who is considered a red-ball specialist. One of the two will replace Kamlesh Nagarkoti who has been ruled out of IPL 2023 with a back injury. Another loss could completely derail DC’s playoff plans in Indian Premier League 2023. Follow DC vs KKR LIVE Updates on InsideSport.IN.
While Kamlesh Nagarkoti has been ruled out, Khaleel Ahmed is also struggling. The left-arm seamer has a hamstring injury. However, Delhi Capitals expect Khaleel to be fit in time. Hence, DC will seek a replacement for Nagarkoti. But what is surprising is the two players who have been summoned for trials.
Abhimanyu Easwaran has been knocking on the door for Test selection. However, he is only considered a red-ball player. He is not even considered for the 50-over format. In his 10-year career, Easwaran has played only 27 T20 games.
But with DC already struggling to keep up with the scoring rate, Easwaran has a strike rate of just 121.53. The only century he has in T20s has come against a northeastern state.
Priyam Garg is better placed than him. The former India U19 captain has been part of three IPL seasons with Sunrisers Hyderabad. However, he has only averaged 15.69 in 17 innings and has a strike rate of just 115.14. Garg found no takers after being released by SRH ahead of IPL 2023.
