Following Sourav Ganguly’s bombshell announcement in a recent interview, the Delhi Capitals (DC) franchise has officially confirmed the departure of Ricky Ponting as their head coach. This news comes after seven seasons with Ponting at the helm, a period that yielded no IPL titles for the Delhi team.
Ganguly already hinted at Ponting’s departure!
News of Ponting’s exit had been making waves after Ganguly, DC’s Director of Cricket, pointed towards a lack of results in the past three IPL seasons, where the team failed to qualify for the playoffs. In an interview with Bengali newspaper Aajkal, Ganguly had expressed his intent to take over the head coach role himself and focus on building an Indian coaching staff.
The Delhi Capitals’ social media channels echoed Ganguly’s sentiments, thanking Ponting for his contributions to the franchise over the years. While an official statement regarding the new head coach position is awaited, Ganguly’s earlier comments suggest he might be taking the reins himself.
The remaining DC coaching team includes director of cricket Sourav Ganguly, assistant coach Pravin Amre, bowling coach James Hopes, and fielding coach Biju George.
