Dean Elgar decided to call it quits on his Test career after the IND vs SA Test series concluded. The former South African skipper had earned himself respect among peers like Virat Kohli and Steve Smith while finding a special place among staunch Test cricket lovers.
However, the opener felt the most impact on his fellow teammates. Two days after Dean Elgar bid adieu to international cricket, his former teammates and fast bowling menace Kagiso Rabada paid tribute to his former skipper.
“The Definition of grit! Deano, I salute you; you have been an incredible role model. We will miss your on field heroics, but miss your off field banter even more! Farewell, bud.” The pacer wrote on his Instagram account while posting images from the IND vs SA 2nd Test.
Rabada had a great record under Dean Elgar. 81 of his 291 wickets came under Elgar in just 16 matches. The southpaw opener was part of the side long before Rabada made his debut in 2015 and was the senior statesman of the side following the retirement of AB de Villiers in 2018.
