Decline in fitness: Geoffrey Boycott doubles down on Rohit Sharma criticism amid dwindling form

Rohit has struggled in the ongoing India vs England Test series, scoring 77 runs in the three innings so far.

Former England skipper Geoffrey Boycott has doubled down on his criticism of Rohit Sharma. After claiming that the Indian skipper is ‘past his best’ following India’s loss to England in Hyderabad, Boycott has ‘attacked’ Rohit’s fans for their blind support.

He took to X (formerly Twitter), replying to a fan who wasn’t pleased with the English greats’ past comments. While taking aim at Rohit’s fitness, endurance, and reaction speed, he wrote:

After the India cricket team’s 28-run loss in Hyderabad, Boycott, in his column for The Telegraph, criticized Rohit Sharma. While he didn’t say much about his captaincy, he took aim at his age and batting.

Although Boycoot indirectly called Rohit ‘old’, he backed his argument with his record in India over the last four years.

“Their captain, Rohit Sharma, is nearly 37 and past his best. He makes pretty cameos but has scored only two Test hundreds at home in four years.”

Boycott may not be entirely wrong about his assessment of Rohit Sharma, the batter. From 2021 onwards, Rohit has just four hundreds to his name. Not only that, his constant injuries have seen him miss several Tests in the past, and the batter has yet to cross the 1000-run mark in the season despite having an 11-year test career.
