IPL 2023: Amidst the ongoing Indian Premier League 2023 (IPL 2023), Delhi Capitals’ Sourav Ganguly security has been upgraded to Z category. Ganguly, a former captain of the Indian cricket team and the former president of the BCCI, would now have Z category security protection, according to a top official. The choice was made by west Bengal government on Tuesday after Ganguly’s Y category security tenure came to an end.
Ganguly is currently with Delhi Capitals (DC) serving as Director of Cricket for the IPL franchise in IPL 2023.
”As the security cover of the VVIP expired, a review was done as per the protocol and it was decided to raise Ganguly’s security cordon to Z category,” the top official said.

The former cricketer will be protected by 8 to 10 police officers under the new security plan, the spokesman added.
Ganguly used to have an equal number of law enforcement officers guarding his Behala home and three Special Branch police officers in his cordon as part of the Y category security cover.
Officials of the state administration met with authorities from the nearby police station and the Kolkata Police headquarters Lalbazar at Ganguly’s Behala office.
”Ganguly is currently travelling with his team Delhi Capitals and will return to Kolkata on May 21. He will start getting Z category security from that very day,” the official said.
DC have two matches left to play in IPL 2023, one against Punjab Kings today while in the last league encounter they will clash with Chennai Super Kings (CSK) on Saturday.
Mamata Banerjee, the chief minister of West Bengal, C V Ananda Bose, the national secretary of the Trinamool Congress, Abhishek Banerjee, and others are given Z Plus protection, whereas ministers like Firhad Hakim and Moloy Ghatak are given Z category security.
Sukanta Majumdar, the president of the BJP in West Bengal, too has CISF and Z Plus security protection.
