DC’s Sameer Rizvi puts ex-team CSK, other sides on notice with yet another double ton before IPL 2025

Sameer Rizvi went berserk once again, this time in an U23 tournament, thus giving DC a very good news and CSK a very bad headache

Sameer Rizvi seems to be a man on a mission, especially in letting IPL franchises know why he is one of the best upcoming batters in the game. The Uttar Pradesh batter, who has been rising rapidly in the domestic circles, played yet another memorable innings, putting his destructive batting ability on full display. Along with Swastik Chikara, the ex-CSK star helped UP set their highest total in the Col CK Nayudu Trophy, guiding the team to 798 runs.

Rizvi puts DC, CSK & other teams on notice

Rizvi was picked up by CSK for Rs 8.4 crore in the IPL 2024 auction. After spending one season with the franchise, he was released just before the mega auction. DC then roped him in for Rs 95 lakh – a steal deal for the side given Rizvi’s red-hot form in the last two years.

Ever since making his domestic debut in 2021, Rizvi has seen a meteoric rise. Time and again, he has proved why he is one of the best batters with his consistent knocks. It wasn’t any different this time around as well. In UP’s game against Gujarat in the Col CK Nayudu tournament, Rizvi smashed 262 off 159 deliveries, laced with 21 fours and 20 sixes. Even in a red-ball game, his strike was 164.78. One can only imagine how much damage he can do while batting as a finisher for DC in IPL 2025.

Latest news

That’s not all. This double century is Rizvi’s third within just over a month, having smashed two of them in a span of five days earlier in December 2024 in the Under-23 One Day State A competition. After initially being snubbed from UP’s Vijay Hazare Trophy, Rizvi wasted no time in the limited opportunities he got, registering scores of 48, 0 and 105 in three List A games.

Given his red-hot from, Rizvi is a frontrunner to secure the finisher’s spot in DC’s playing XI in IPL 2025, putting his teammates like Abhishek Porel and Tristian Stubbs on notice with his ability to strike at will and strike big.
