IPL 2021, DC vs RR: Prithvi Shaw continues to falter – An explosive batsman, one with most runs inside the powerplay but Prithvi Shaw’s lack of maturity despite being shown the door by Team India management is difficult to understand. While Shaw might have had Delhi Capitals management’s confidence, he has kept throwing wickets away despite good starts. On Saturday, it was a repeat once again. He had a steady start but threw his wicket away against Rajasthan Royals.

Not to take anything away from Prithvi Shaw, he has been in good form. That he has smashed 329 runs in 10 innings is a testament to that fact. He also has an impressive strike rate of 160.48 and an average of 32.90 say a lot. However, it is the manner of his dismissals that has attracted a lot of criticism.

IPL 2021, DC vs RR: Against Sunrisers Hyderabad, Shaw and Shikhar Dhawan started well in the chase of a modest 135. However, trying to be more aggressive in his batting, he tried to take on Khaleel Ahmed on a slower length delivery at a time when he didn’t need to and Kane Williamson took a brilliant catch to send him back.

On Saturday, it wasn’t any different. With the Dubai pitch playing its tricks, Delhi Capitals needed a steady start. With Dhawan managing to hold on from the other end, all Prithvi Shaw needed to stay on for longer and let the pitch ease out a bit, especially when his opening partner was dismissed trying to play a loose shot. But instead of learning from it, Prithvi Shaw tried to hammer a good length delivery and completely mistimed the shot and gave a simple catch to Liam Livingstone at mid-off on 10 runs.

In IPL 2021, it’s not the first time though. He has thrown his wicket away quite often, including against Rajasthan Royals in the first leg and against KKR when he was set at 82. With Team India keeping him as a standby opener for Test and a lot of overseas tours coming up, Prithvi Shaw finds himself in a vicious cycle, despite improving on his technique.
