DC vs MI Highlights: Capitals top the table after Jemimah Rodrigues’ fireworks in 1st home game

Until now, Rodrigues had a poor start to the tournament, scoring just 53 runs in four innings.

This is how you play your first match at home. The Delhi Capitals toppled their nemesis, the Mumbai Indians, in their first match at their home ground, the Arun Jaitley Stadium, and topped the WPL 2024 Points Table. After winning the DC vs MI match, Meg Lanning’s Capitals are now on a four-match winning streak and are the only team to win four of their five encounters.

The Jemimah Rodrigues Show

Shafali Verma scored 28 off 12 balls, skipper Meg Lanning scored her second consecutive fifty (53 of 38 balls), and Jess Jonassen took three wickets, but nothing came remotely close to the masterclass by Jemimah Rodrigues. The pocket rocket started slow. At one point, she had scored just 13 runs off her first 14 balls.

Like a video game, it seemed like she decided to change modes and went from defensive to attacking. Having entered the field in the 10th over, it wasn’t until the 16th over that she decided to berserk. From there on, she scored an astounding 56 runs in 19 balls., striking at 294.73.

She brought up her fifty in 27 balls, and that too by taking a scintillating hit over the head of Nat Sciver-Brunt. But she was far from done. Jemimah then scored a further 18 runs in the remaining six deliveries to take the Capitals to 192.

Having scored 69 off 33 balls, it seemed like the right-handed batter wasn’t done yet. After her magic with the bat, Jemimah was electric while fielding as well. Fielding at long-on, the pocket rocket claimed an exceptional diving catch while lunging forward to dismiss Amelia Kerr and suppress any chances of a comeback from the Mumbai Indians.
