Australia on Sunday suffered a jolt when West Indies breached the Gabba fortress in the AUS vs WI 2nd Test. Shamar Joseph starred for West Indies in the fourth innings, taking seven wickets to break the Aussies down. This is not the first time the Gabba fortress has been breached, with Indian wicketkeeper-batter Rishabh Pant providing India with a memorable win in the very same ground in 2021 during India’s tour of Australia. There’s one other thing that connects Rishabh Pant and Shamar Joseph, with both players plying their for the DC franchise.
While Rishabh Pant is the captain the Indian Premier League (IPL) team Delhi Capitals, Joseph plies trade for the ILT20 team Dubai Capitals. Both the franchise teams are owned by the JSW group.
Playing in only the second Test match of his career, Joseph ran riot through the Australian batting order in the fourth innings, cleaning up middle-order and tail enders almost single-handedly. Steve Smith produced a brilliant innings of 91 not out but that was not enough as the Aussies fell short by 8 runs. The West Indies came from behind to level the 2-match series 1-1.
Rishabh Pant had also almost single-handedly won the Test match for India at the Gabba in 2021. Pant, who was just 23-years-old at the time, scored 89 not out to guide India to the famous Test victory.
It seems as the DC players have a thing against the Aussies in Gabba.
