Day-Night IND vs AUS Test returns to Adelaide after India’s 36 all out humiliation in 2020

This will be the first time since 1991-92 that the Border-Gavaskar Trophy will be played across five Tests.

Revenge will be on their minds as India play Australia in a day/night Test at the Adelaide Oval in the Border-Gavaskar Trophy for the first time since the 36-all out humiliation in 2020. The much anticipated IND vs AUS Test series is set to commence from November 22nd.

This will be the first time since 1991-92 that the Border-Gavaskar Trophy will be played across five Tests. In the four-test series Down Under, India defeated Australia 2-1 in 2018-19 and 2-1 in 2020-21 respectively. Notably, Australia has not beaten India in a Test series since the 2014-15 season.

As India aim to secure a hat-trick of Test series wins in Australia, the series kicks off at the Opus in Perth, which hasn’t been the most favourable venue for the Indian team in the past. Adding to the excitement, the pink-ball Test makes a comeback, taking place in Adelaide in the second IND vs AUS Test which will start from December 6th until 10th.

This ground holds special memories for India, where they famously turned around a tough situation to win the series after a historic collapse, scoring just 36 runs in the first innings.

What happened when India last faced Australia at the Oval in the day-night Test?

During the 2020-21 tour of Australia, the Indian cricket team showcased remarkable performances, securing a memorable Test series victory Down Under. However, the beginning of the Test series was not so smooth. Confronted by a formidable Aussie bowling attack including Mitchell Starc, Josh Hazlewood, and Pat Cummins, the visitors suffered an eight-wicket loss in the series opener.

The manner in which Indian batters succumbed in the second innings of the pink-ball Test was bewildering. It marked India’s lowest-ever Test innings total and the lowest in red-ball cricket since 1955, ranking as the fifth-lowest in Test history.

Resuming the third day at 9-1 with a lead of 62, Team India lost eight wickets for 22 runs in the first session. Mohammad Shami retired hurt after sustaining an arm injury facing Pat Cummins, who claimed four wickets. Josh Hazlewood shone for Australia, securing figures of 5/8 from five overs. Mayank Agarwal top-scored for India in the second innings with 9 runs.
