Davis Cup: Rohit Rajpal reappointed as India’s captain until December 2024

The All India Tennis Association (AITA) on Saturday reappointed Rohit Rajpal as India's non-playing Davis Cup captain

Rohit Rajpal, India’s non-playing captain in Davis Cup has been reappointed in the position. The All India Tennis Association (AITA) on Saturday confirmed the decision to extend Rajpal’s tenure until December 2024.

According to PTI, the AITA’s secretary general Anil Dhupar in a press release said the decision was taken after careful consideration and evaluation of Rajpal’s tenure.

“We are delighted to extend Rohit Rajpal’s tenure as the captain of our esteemed Davis Cup team,” stated Anil Dhupar. Calling him a ‘valuable asset’ he futher added, “We have full faith in his capabilities and believe that he will continue to steer the team towards greater success in the upcoming Davis Cup campaign.”

India’s performance under Rohit Rajpal

Rohit Rajpal was appointed as the captain of the Indian team in 2019. His first role was during the India vs Pakistan tie that was played in Kazakhstan. India won it comfortably 3-0.

Since then, he led the Indian team in six more ties. India went on to lose against Croatia in 2020 and Finland in 2021. India was relegated to Group II in 2023 after losing against Denmark.

In September this year, India faced Morocco in the Group II tie at Lucknow. The hosts went on to win it 3-1. The upcoming assignment in the Group I play-off tie against Pakistan in March.
