David Warner’s IPL 2025 hopes alive? Smashes half-century in BBL 2024-25

David Warner dazzles with 86* off 57 balls in BBL 2024, showcasing brilliance in the league. Will he get a chance to play IPL 2025?

Australia’s legendary opening batter David Warner has scored his first fifty in Big Bash League (BBL) 2024-25 after 11 years. The last time he scored a fifty in the league was in 2013. On Monday during the match between Sydney Thunders and Melbourne Renegades, he completed his half-century. Opening the innings for the team and slowly reaching the fifty mark at Sydney Showground Stadium. His excellent form suggests that he’s ready for the IPL challenge, but he went unsold in the 2025 auction.

Slowly reaches to fifty, then cause the destruction

David Warner has reached his fifty very slowly; it took Warner a total of 40 balls to score the 50 runs. He held the innings in a good way and scored slowly because he kept losing players from the other hand. But he didn’t stop there and played slowly, he caused the destruction afterwards. Partnering with Matthew Gilkes towards the end, Warner ensured Thunder had a steady finish despite losing wickets at regular intervals. He led from the front as captain and delivered a scintillating innings of 86 not out off just 57 balls to guide Thunders to a total of 156/4 in 20 overs with a strike rate of 150.4.

How can David Warner make a comeback in IPL 2025?

David Warner went unsold in the IPL 2025 auction held in Jeddah in November this year, although he is not a part of any team in the upcoming season, there are still chances he could play in the league. If any player gets injured or unavailable, then the franchise could go for the player for his base price. Looking at all the squads in the league, Punjab Kings or Lucknow super Giants would be the ideal teams to get the destructive opener in the upcoming season.
