Senior Australian opener sent all bells to all other teams participating in the upcoming World Cup 2023 with a blazing hundred against the Proteas in the second ODI on Saturday. Warner got out after playing an excellent hand of 106 runs in 93 balls. His innings included 12 fours and three maximums. During his marathon innings, Warner (46) surpassed Sachin Tendulkar (45) for most centuries as an opener.
Warner and Head gave a flying start to Australia
Batting first, both Warner and Head gave a flying start to the Aussies as the South African bowlers looked clueless against the Southpaw. Having been dismissed for a duck in the first match, Warner returned to form in style, cementing his claim for his spot for the ODI World Cup in India. During his innings, the left-handed batter also breached the 6000-run landmark in ODI cricket.
During his time in the crease, Anrich Nortje had leaked 58 off his 5 overs. The left-hander added 151 runs with Marnus Labuschagne who also looked impressive on the day. The innings would give Warner and the Australian team good confidence ahead of the ODI World Cup 2023, set to be hosted in India in the months of October and November.
After winning the first match, Australia are on their way to post massive 400 against the home side. Apart from Warner, Labuschagne also went on to stroke hundred. He has backed up a century with a fifty in his previous knock. Travis Head and Josh Inglis also scored fifty with the bat.
