David Warner has defended his opening partner Usman Khawaja as he continues his human rights protests against the war in Israel-Hamas by wearing shoes with his daughters’ names on them.
Warner wrote his three daughters’ names on his shoes during a post-play interview at the MCG after he top-scored with 38 in Australia’s 3-187 on the rain-delayed first day of the second Test against Pakistan.

“I’ve got my kids on my shoes and they have been their for a long time. Writing your kids names, (on your shoes) for me, it’s sentimental, like they’re always with me. And that’s just something that he (Khawaja) decided to do,” Warner said when he was asked about Khawaja’s gesture.
“Uzzy’s always been the type of person to always say how it is. But whenever he says it, it’s definitely meaningful. He says it with a purpose and its something that he believes in. He’s even shutting me down sometimes when I’m trying to prove a point. But that’s just how Uzzy is,” Warner added.
“Uzzy’s always been a leader around the group and NSW as well. Even when we were young, he was always the guy that put his hand up to help. The work that he does for his community and foundation is outstanding. I think that’s a person he is and he has got a lot of respect from a lot of people,” he said.
