David Warner to skip ILT20? Sydney Thunder confirm southpaw’s commitment for BBL

Former Australian cricketer David Warner has confirmed that he will play for the Sydney Thunder in the upcoming edition of the Big Bash League (BBL)

Former Australian cricketer David Warner is all set to return to action, this time in the Big Bash League (BBL). The Sydney Thunder have confirmed the southpaw’s commitment to the franchise for the upcoming season. This will be the first time Warner will play the entire league.

David Warner to play full BBL

Warner, who retired from all forms of cricket earlier this year, said that he was excited to reunite with Thunder. Incidentally, the southpaw’s confirmation comes after his former teammate Steve Smith confirmed that he will play for Sydney Sixers in the BBL.

[There’s a] great bunch of people, a great coach and I’ve always been a part of Thunder,” Warner said on Tuesday.

In total, the explosive opener has made 8 appearances for the franchise, scoring 149 runs at an average of 21.28. This would mean David Warner will skip the next edition of ILT20 as he confirms to play the entire BBL.

What does Warner have to say about his return?

I definitely am keen to pursue playing Big Bash next year. There’s going to be conversations behind the scenes to allow me to do that. Obviously I’ve joined the Fox commentary team next year during the Test series against India, which I’m looking forward to. So I would like to play [the BBL] in and around the commentary stuff. I’ve just got to make sure that I’m, one, playing to the best of my ability and, two, not hindering the team’s performances or upsetting the balance of the team,” Warner had said earlier.
