David Warner has always been under scrutiny for his on-field as his off-field shenanigans rather than his personal form. His drinking issues in the past are well documented too. Meanwhile, Warner spoke about his drinking problem and also admitted that having alcohol was a culture in Aussie dressing rooms. The Southpaw also spoke on how her wife Candice Warner helped him to overcome the drinking issue.
“Early doors, I probably didn’t understand what it was about to be an athlete at this level. I was burning the candle at both ends. She (Candice) actually didn’t understand how we drank so much as cricketers. And I said to her that’s how cricket is. I said cricket was like that back in the day and sort of it’s something you do at the end of the day’s play. You crack open a beer. And coming from an individual based athlete with Ironwomen, you know, you’ve got to put your self pride and your ambitions first before any social activities,” said David Warner in a video uploaded by ESPN Cricinfo.
The southpaw admitted that he had ‘no choice’ but to listen to Candice even though all of his teammates drank. “She trained the house down from day dot when she was getting up at four in the morning and me thinking she’s crazy, It literally took probably four or five days before I got up at five or certainly a little bit longer and I got up and started doing things. We live a very very nice simple life at home with the girls. We enjoy each other’s company all the time. I still learn from her, even with her media stuff,” added Warner.
