Australia batter David Warner has responded to former Indian cricket Mohammad Kaif after latter’s remarked that the best team did not win the World Cup.

After Team India’s heartbreaking defeat in the World Cup final on November 19, Kaif had said that he was “not ready to accept that the best team won the World Cup”, claiming India as the best side of the World Cup on paper.

However, Australian broadcaster Glenn Mitchell did not take Kaif’s remark too well and reminded the former Indian cricketer that the ‘World Cup finals are won on a cricket field and not on paper’.

“I think someone needs to remind former Indian batter, Mohammad Kaif that World Cup finals are won on a cricket field and not on paper”, Mitchell posted on X.

Australian opener David Warner also chipped in and highlighted the importance of performing under pressure on the biggest stage.

“I like MK, issue is it does not matter what’s on paper. At the end of the day you need to perform when it matters. That’s why they call it a final. That’s the day that counts and it can go either way, that’s sports. 2027 here we come,” Warner posted on X.

Team India had a 10-match unbeaten run in the World Cup 2023. However, their dream-run came to an end in the final where they were comprehensively beaten by Australia at Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad on November 19.

India managed only 240 on the board after Pat Cummins asked the hosts to bat first. The Men in Yellow then chased down the target in 43 overs to lift their 6th ODI World Cup title.
