David Warner has secured a spot in Australia’s squad for the first of three home Tests against Pakistan (AUS vs PAK). The squad, revealed on Sunday, specifically covers the opening Test scheduled in Perth from December 14 to 19. Additionally, pacer Lance Morris is on the verge of earning his maiden Test cap, having been recalled to Australia’s Test squad for the upcoming series.
The squad includes Cameron Green, who ceded his place to Mitch Marsh during the Ashes. Alex Carey has retained his position as the wicket-keeper, despite facing exclusion from the one-day team during the World Cup.
Scott Boland is also part of the squad, and Nathan Lyon returns, having recovered from a calf injury that sidelined him during the Ashes series. Notably, the squad announcement omits the naming of a specialist back-up batter, heightening anticipation for the Prime Minister’s XI clash in Canberra.

AUS vs PAK: David Warner farewell on home turf?
David Warner, who stood out as Australia’s top run-scorer in the ODI World Cup, is still in line for a desired farewell from Test cricket on his home turf in Sydney. However, the decision to announce a squad specifically for the first Test adds intrigue to the upcoming PM’s XI match.
David Warner’s Test performances have been gradually declining, with an average of 28 in Test cricket since the 2019-20 summer, where he recorded a triple-century against Pakistan. He has expressed his intention to make the New Year’s Test this summer his final appearance in the Baggy Green while continuing to play in white-ball formats.
Australia squad for 1st Test vs Pakistan (AUS vs PAK): Pat Cummins (c), Scott Boland, Alex Carey, Cameron Green, Josh Hazlewood, Travis Head, Usman Khawaja, Marnus Labuschagne, Nathan Lyon, Mitch Marsh, Lance Morris, Steve Smith, Mitch Starc, David Warner.
