South Africa secured a vital victory in the T20 World Cup Group D clash against Netherlands, but it was far from a straightforward win. David Miller’s unbeaten knock of 59 runs proved decisive in guiding the Proteas to a four-wicket win with seven balls remaining.
Aiden Markram opts to bowl, Marco Jansen stars
South African skipper Aiden Markram elected to bowl first, and Marco Jansen justified the decision with a superb bowling performance.
He claimed two wickets and took two catches, restricting the Netherlands’ batting to a modest total of 103/9. Ottneil Baartman also chipped in with a crucial four-wicket haul.
Netherlands set modest target
The Netherlands batting line-up struggled against the disciplined South African bowling attack. Their top three batsmen were dismissed within the first five overs, with Jansen playing a key role in all three dismissals.
Despite some resistance from Scott Edwards, South Africa kept the Netherlands in check throughout the innings.

South Africa nightmare start
Chasing a seemingly achievable target of 104, South Africa suffered a disastrous start, losing their first four wickets within the first five overs.
A comical run-out of Quinton de Kock in the very first ball set the tone for a shaky showing. Captain Aiden Markram and Heinrich Klaasen also fell cheaply, leaving the Proteas in a precarious position at 3/3.
David Miller finishes job
With their backs against the wall, David Miller and Tristan Stubbs started rebuilding the South African innings. Stubbs contributed a steady 33 runs, but his dismissal in the 17th over left South Africa needing 27 runs from the final 22 balls. Miller took center stage, smashing two sixes and a four in the 19th over to seal a dramatic victory for his side.
