Sourav Ganguly confirms the news
The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) President Sourav Ganguly confirmed the news of an unknown player being tested positive for Covid-19. The situation roused just before the Indian team was set to travel to Birmingham.
As things stand, the player would likely travel alone after she tests negative and should be available for the opener opening clash against Australia on Friday, July 29. The current Covid-19 guidelines means that the player will also have to go for strict isolation.
However with time to recover, it could be hoped that the unknown player makes the Playing XI against Australia, while there is another crunch encounter in the group stage. Pakistan and India will also go head-to-head in the CWG 2022.
India in great form
The Indian team recently completed an ODI series whitewash against Sri Lanka and before that they also won a 3-match T20I series 2-1 against the same opponents. The new era of Indian cricket has started on a positive note after the Women’s team failed to make the knockout stage of the Women’s World Cup in New Zealand.
On the flip side, star player and former captain Mitahli Raj retired from the women’s game that brought to an end an unprecedented era of Indian cricket. The Indian Women’s team will have happy memories from their last English adventure in a multi-national tournament, having made it to the final of the 2017 Women’s World Cup.
India suffered a tragic collapse while chasing the target, as they lost the final to hosts England.
