One of the greatest leaders of the game, finisher of the game, and an absolute legend of the game – CSK skipper MS Dhoni is synonymous with the Yellow Army since the inception of the Indian Premier League (IPL) in 2008. Leading his side to the 4th IPL trophy, MS Dhoni scripted 3 big records on Friday. Check it out –
1.300th match as captain in T20 cricket: On Friday, MS Dhoni became the first captain to lead a side in 300 T20 matches across all T20 formats. The Chennai skipper featured in his 10th IPL final (9th with CSK) when the three-time Yellow Army took the field against Kolkata Knight Riders at Dubai. Dhoni has captained CSK in 214 games (including 23 matches of Champions League), team India in 72 matches, and now-defunct Rising Pune Supergiants in 14 matches. Apart from Dhoni, Windies former World Cup-winning captain Daren Sammy (208) is the only other player to have captained teams in more than 200 T20s.

2. Oldest captain to win an IPL trophy: While he achieved the feat of leading a team in 300 T20 matches, Captain Cool became the oldest captain to win an IPL title after CSK thrashed KKR by 27 runs in the final. The 40-year-old is the second captain to win three or more IPL trophies after Mumbai Indians Rohit Sharma.
Earlier, Australia’s spin legend Shane Warne had won the inaugural edition of the IPL as Rajasthan Royals’ captain at the age of 39. In 2009, another Australian legend Adam Gilchrist took Deccan Chargers to glory at the age of 37.

3. 8th title win as captain in T20 cricket: CSK’s fourth title win in IPL was also MS Dhoni’s 8th trophy as captain in a T20 tournament. Dhoni’s tally of 8 title wins is the most by a captain in multi-team tournaments or competitions with 3 or more teams. CSK’s all four IPL titles have come under Dhoni’s captaincy. Besides this, the former India skipper has also guided CSK to two Champions League T20 title wins. He also led India to T20I World Cup glory in 2007and Asia cup title in 2016.
After MS Dhoni, Mumbai Indians skipper Rohit Sharma has won 7 T20 titles as captain followed by Pakistan’s Shoaib Malik and Windies Dwayne Bravo.
