CSK vs RCB: ‘Not looking to fill’ MS Dhoni’s shoes, says Ruturaj Gaikwad

IPL 2024: Ruturaj Gaikwad is leading Chennai for the very first time, in the CSK vs RCB match.

If there is one man who everyone will be watching out for in the IPL 2024 opener — CSK vs RCB, it will be the new Chennai skipper Ruturaj Gaikwad, who took over the reigns from MS Dhoni. And at the toss for the match, it was a special occasion for the 27-year-old, who is standing in his first match as the CSK leader.

After RCB opted to bat first, Gaikwad made it clear that he wasn’t looking to fill Dhoni’s shoes. “Feel privileged at leading CSK. But I want to try and be in my shoes, not fill anybody’s shoes. (On captaincy) I got to know last week, but Mahi bhai hinted at it last year.

As far as the team composition is concerned, Gaikwad added, “Everyone is experienced here, sadly we are missing Devon Conway and Matheesha Pathirana. We’ve got Rachin and Mitchell coming in though this year so they should fit in well. Looks like a good pitch, a hard surface that should hold up well for the second innings.”

Ruturaj Gaikwad(c), Rachin Ravindra, Ajinkya Rahane, Daryl Mitchell, Ravindra Jadeja, Sameer Rizvi, MS Dhoni(w), Deepak Chahar, Maheesh Theekshana, Mustafizur Rahman, Tushar Deshpande.
