CSK vs MI: MS Dhoni is as quick as a whip at 43, his stumping of Suryakumar Yadav is proof

Despite being in 40s, MS Dhoni is still one of the best keepers in IPL.

MS Dhoni does not play any cricket apart from the IPL and nearly half-a-decade after his international retirement, the former India and Chennai Super Kings captain brings his A game every summer. MS Dhoni was at his best when he collected a ball turning away from Noor Ahmad; stand-in Mumbai Indians captain Suryakumar Yadav walked out of his crease and Dhoni whipped the bails off in a flash.

Naturally, MS Dhoni’s quick reflexes were the talk of the town – how does a 43-year-old continue to do this year after year? Like his gun stumping skills, Dhoni has also kept up his six-hitting panache. MS Dhoni led Chennai Super Kings to five IPL titles and then handed over the captaincy reins to Ruturaj Gaikwad who took charge last year. Three years ago, Dhoni had stepped down as captain just a day before the IPL before a dramatic U-turn from then skipper Ravindra Jadeja brought Dhoni back at the helm.

On the eve of CSK’s first match of IPL 2025, Gaikwad said Dhoni was only focussed on hitting as many sixes as he can. “I think his training is very much limited to whatever he tries to achieve. “Or whatever his role would be in the IPL. So, it is pretty much very simple, focused on trying to hit as much as sixes as possible and trying to get the right swing, trying to be in the best shape.
“That is what I think initially he was trying to do. And then I never thought he was out of shape even on the first day. So, I think obviously he is special – he’s done it for so many years.”
