CSK vs KKR LIVE: Is Dhoni playing his last match for CSK tonight? – Chennai Super Kings (CSK) will be heading into their ninth IPL final when they take on the Kolkata Knight Riders on Friday. The speculation is on that the IPL 2021 Finals could very well be MS Dhoni’s last as a player. Dhoni had previously himself hinted that he will continue with CSK but more in a role of mentor which has further fuelled these speculations. – Follow CSK vs KKR LIVE Updates on InsideSport.in

Dhoni recently declared, “You will see me in yellow but whether I will be playing for CSK, I don’t know. There are a lot of uncertainties around it for the simple reason that we have two new teams coming up. We don’t know the retention policy. We don’t know how many foreigners, Indian players we can retain, the money cap that every player will be cutting from the kitty. So there are a lot of uncertainties. Unless the rules are in place you can’t really decide that. So we will wait for it to happen and hopefully, it will be good for everyone.

CSK vs KKR LIVE: Is Dhoni playing his last match for CSK tonight? Can he announce retirement?

Dhoni’s last match for CSK? The former Indian captain retired from international cricket last year, and has now taken up the role of a mentor for the Indian team. A similar arrangement could very well be on the cards with CSK believe ex-cricketers Shane Watson and Akash Chopra.

Shane Watson, who played under Dhoni’s captaincy in CSK and won the IPL title in 2018, said that the former captain’s response itself hinted that he would be moving on from his playing career. The former Australian all-rounder, speaking on Star Sports said, “Hearing that answer from MS to me was very different to the answer he gave last year where he was very confident that yes, he will definitely be back.”

Watson added, “Hearing him sort of talk about things such as let us see what happens at the auction and all the different sorts of permutations with two new teams coming in, that for me more so suggests that he will be in yellow still but potentially not as a player and more as a mentor, which still is a huge role in the franchise.”

Now, ahead of IPL 2021 Final,  Akash Chopra has also addressed the MS Dhoni retirement rumours and believes the CSK captain will return to the franchise as a mentor next season. Speaking on Star Spots, Akash Chopra said,

“Dhoni is going to retain CSK for sure. Now in what capacity it`s up to him. It`s never been a transactional kind of relationship between the two. MSD is equal to CSK, so if he has a season in him, which is only six months away, and if he has the desire to play as he will play.”

However, the former India opener added, “But I`m sure he`s also mindful of the fact that next year`s big auction, a lot of money is being parked on one player for the next three seasons. If that`s going to happen then you`re going to hamper the chances of creating a good team at a big auction. So if that plays out the way I think it is, MS might be there as a mentor and not as a player.”

Whether Dhoni is playing his last match or will he be back again in IPL 2022, no one knows the clear answer than Dhoni himself. And as always, the man himself will keep all his cards close to the chest till the very last day.
