Ever since Ruturaj Gaikwad has been named the skipper of the CSK, replacing MS Dhoni, much of the focus has shifted from his batting, to his captaincy. One tend to forgets that Gaikwad is one of the most promising young batters in India, at least in the shortest format, and has scored heaps of runs for the CSK, over the years.
In 2020, his debut season, he scored 204 runs in six matches at an average of 51, slamming three fifties. The next year, he had a rocking season with 635 runs in 16 matches, including a ton and four fifties, averaging 45. The last year, in 16 matches, he ended up scoring 590 runs, at an average of 42, hitting four fifties.
That means, overall in 53 matches, he has scored 1812 runs, at 38.55 per game.
Ruturaj Gaikwad vs Gujarat Titans
On Tuesday, CSK will be up against GT, and that means, Gaikwad will have a chance to better his already great record. The opener fancies playing against the opposition, and averages over 60 against them. In fact, in the five matches versus GT, he has scored 26 from 16, 60 from 44, 92 from 50, 53 from 49, and 73 from 48.
So it could be a run feast for Gaikwad, who would be looking to make a mark in IPL 2024 as well, after failing the first match against RCB. In the season opener, he could only manage 15 from 15, pretty low by his own lofty standards.
