CSK to enter WPL? Team ‘studying financial viability, experiences of other franchises’: Report

As per reports, N Srinivasan's daughter Rupa Gurunath, who is set to join the CSKCL's board, has ambitious plans of CSK's participation in the WPL

The fans could get to see one more team join the Women’s Premier League, with the Chennai Super Kings reportedly looking at owning a WPL franchise. This comes after Ultra Tech Cements acquired N Srinivasan’s India Cements, with CSK not being a part of the deal. Srinivasan’s daughter Rupa Gurunath is all set to join the board of the franchise and there are several key matters that are being deliberated on, as per reports.

CSK to own WPL team soon?

As per Economic Times, an executive from CSK stated that the franchise was studying the financial viability of owing a Women’s Premier League franchise. Additionally, the executive reportedly added that the team was also looking into the experiences of the other five franchises in WPL 2024 before taking a call.

CSK is currently studying the financial viability… and the experience of the other five IPL franchises that took part last year,” said an executive.

Rupa Gurunath is all set to join the Chennai Super Kings Cricket Limited’s (CSKCL) board, which has ambitious plans for the future. It includes opening more coaching centres for schoolchildren, stepping up fan connect activities, as well as increasing income through sponsorship and merchandise.

“Chennai Super Kings and India Cements are different entities. India Cements no longer controls the CSK team. The team is run by a company called Chennai Super Kings Cricket Limited (CSKCL),” Kasi Viswanathan told Cricbuzz.

Back in 2015, the CSK was no longer a part of India Cements. Despite the takeover, UltraTech knows for a fact that the company won’t have any control over CSK.
