Everything that could possibly go wrong for the CSK in IPL 2025, has gone wrong. Out of the eight matches played, they have only two, have lost their regular skipper Ruturaj Gaikwad, due to an injury, and the batting form of the team has been miserable, including that of stand-in captain MS Dhoni.
As a result, they are 10th in the IPL 2025 points table, and have looked the worst team in the competition, where the players have shown lack of intent to win matches. Having said that, all is not lost for the team. After 8 clashes, they still have an outside chance to make it to the playoffs.
CSK In Playoffs, If They Win 6 Out of 6
To qualify outright, they need to win six of the six matches remaining. They can’t put a foot wrong, and batting and bowling together needs to come good. But that isn’t happening; this team just hasn’t shown the zeal to string a few wins together, let alone six. So, this possibility is ruled out.
5 Wins Will Complicate Matters for MS Dhoni’s Chennai
What happens if CSK, by the end of the league matches, win five and lose one more? They would end with 14 points, and they would be in a direct race with a few other teams to make the cut. 14-point territory is that danger-zone, where the NRR comes into play, and the team with the best NRR makes to the next round. Last year, CSK faced it, when they finished fifth, despite finishing on same points with RCB — but Virat Kohli’s team still made the cut. But anything lower than 12, if the team loses 3 on the way, there is just no chance and it will be all over for them.
