CSK Playing XI vs RR, IPL 2025: Struggling Chennai Super Kings have made two changes, dropping Sam Curran and Deepak Hooda from the Playing XI for the Rajasthan Royals match. They have got Jamie Overton in place of Curran in an English pace bowling swap. Vijay Shankar has come in for Hooda. However, struggling Rahul Tripathi keeps his place in the Playing XI for RR vs CSK match.
One win and a loss in two matches, Chennai Super Kings have not had a fluent start to the season despite playing both matches at home. Their crushing 50-run defeat to Royal Challengers Bengaluru in the last match exposed their weaknesses. Rahul Tripathi once again delivered a flop show while MS Dhoni batting at No 9 did not help them in the run chase.
CSK Playing XI vs RR

Jamie Overton & Vijay Shankar in CSK XI
CSK is where Sam Curran made his name. But on his return to the franchise, he did not have a good start. Curran bowled two wicketless spells with 0/13 (1 over) and 0/34 (3 overs) in two matches. Despite his all-rounder tag, he could only manage 4 and 8 with the bat. Hence, rightfully, he has been dropped.
Jamie Overton makes his CSK debut. The English right-arm pacer can also bat. That gives CSK the batting depth. With 118 wickets in 162 T20s, Overton has had a decent career. Now, he will aim to deliver for Chennai with the T20 World Cup 11 months away and England team is in transition.
Vijay Shankar returns to CSK after 11 years. This is where he made his IPL debut, although playing just a game. After warming the bench in the first two games, Shankar gets a match with Deepak Hooda making way. In 60 IPL innings, Shankar has scored 1115 runs and bagged 9 wickets in 22 innings. He gives CSK a solid middle-order option.
