Former India and Chennai Super Kings cricketer Suresh Raina has registered for the Lanka Premier League (LPL) player auction for 2023. The player auction will take place on June 14 and Raina has placed his starting bid at USD 50,000. The tournament will be held from July 30 to August 20.
In September 2022, Raina, 36, declared his retirement from all forms of cricket. He competed in the Abu Dhabhi T10 2023 tournament in December 2022, scoring just 36 runs for the Deccan Gladiators, the eventual winners. During the Indian Premier League 2023 season, Raina was a prominent voice in the commentary box and also participated in the Legends League Cricket in March of this year.
For the first time ever, the fourth iteration of the tournament will feature an IPL-style auction. Over 500 players, including 140 international cricketers, have already registered for the player auction, according to Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC). Each of the five teams competing in LPL 2023 will receive USD 500,000 to spend on players during the player auction. Babar Azam of Pakistan and David Miller of South Africa are two other well-known international cricketers who have been confirmed to take part in LPL 2023.
Raina boasts extensive franchise cricket expertise and is anticipated to receive a competitive bid during the player auction for the LPL in 2023. The former middle-order left-handed batter for CSK continues to be the team’s best scorer with 5528 runs in 205 IPL games. In IPL, only four other cricketers have scored more runs than the former CSK star.
