CSK farewell on cards? Legend MS Dhoni might look beyond IPL to go international

Whether MS Dhoni will continue his trade in the IPL or not, we will have an answer by October 31.

One of the all-time legends MS Dhoni might be nearing the end of his IPL career. Questions swirl about his future with the Chennai Super Kings (CSK), fueled by his age (43), a nagging knee injury, and a stoic silence on retirement plans. Even CSK management is unsure about Dhoni’s future in the IPL. But what if Dhoni, the master of every format he’s touched, is looking for a new challenge? Enter T10 cricket, the ultra-fast version of the game, and a potential landing spot for the iconic finisher.

MS Dhoni to play T10?

Shaji Ul Mulk, Chairman of T10 Ten Global Sports, already believes Dhoni’s foray into T10 is a distinct possibility. This aligns with the trend of recently retired Indian stars like Robin Uthappa, Suresh Raina, and Irfan Pathan finding a new lease on cricketing life in T10 leagues. The legend of Dhoni has conquered Tests, ODIs, and T20s. T10 could be his next frontier.

Dhoni still has it in him!

Imagine the impact. ‘Thala’ MS Dhoni, with his lightning-fast reflexes that defy his age and a breathtaking ability to tonk the ball long under pressure, perfectly embodies the T10 spirit. While he may have reduced himself to a cameo player, but this is what the shorted format needs. In fact, Dhoni’s strike rate in the last two IPL seasons has been quite exhilarating. In IPL 2023, he clubbed runs at 182.45 before the next season saw him maul down bowlers at a strike rate of a phenomenal 220.54 (average of 53.66).

His arrival would be a shot in the arm for the format, propelling it towards global recognition. The recent Abu Dhabi T10 season witnessed a record number of international stars participating. This highlights the growing popularity of the format. With Dhoni joining the ranks, T10 cricket could reach a whole new level of excitement and viewership. So, will MS Dhoni take on this new challenge? Only time will tell. But one thing’s for sure, if Dhoni decides to step onto the T10 field, it’s bound to be a spectacle for cricket fans worldwide.
