CSK captain’s lame lost by “just 50 runs” to RCB remark doesn’t sit well with fans

CSK captain Ruturaj Gaikwad came up with a rather lame excuse after losing the IPL 2025 match to RCB by 50 runs

Chennai Super Kings succumbed to a rare defeat at the hands of RCB at the MA Chidambaram stadium on Friday. Ruturaj Gaikwad and co. were handed a 50-run thrashing by Bengaluru. By the virtue of this win, RCB managed to defeat CSK at Chepauk for the first time in nearly 17 years. However, CSK fans were unhappy with captain Gaikwad’s remarks justifying the loss.

Gaikwad’s justification of CSK’s loss irks fans

Speaking at the post-match presentation, CSK captain Gaikwad blamed poor batting in powerplay and dropped catches for the team’s defeat. He claimed that CSK had lost “just by 50 runs”, offering a rather lame excuse for the defeat.

Still happy that we didn’t lose by a big margin and at the end it was just 50 runs,” Gaikwad said.

This remark irked CSK fans who took to social media to lambast the captain.

Chasing 197, CSK lost Rahul Tripathi and skipper Ruturaj Gaikwad to Josh Hazlewood in the second over of the innings. It was a disaster before more misery unfolded for the 5-time champions.

Deepak Hooda lasted for only 9 balls and Sam Curran continued to be poor. The asking rate naturally kept climbing because CSK kept losing wickets and did not score quickly enough. The writing was on the wall when Yash Dayal removed Rachin Ravindra for 41 and CSK lost half their side for only 75.

Shivam Dube, the Impact Sub, came in with better intent than all the others ahead of him in the line-up, but his innings was cut short by Dayal in the same over.

Ashwin walked in ahead of MS Dhoni to join Jadeja and even their primary target of ensuring minimal damage to the net run rate was steep.

There was obviously a loud cheer when Dhoni came out to bat, but the game was already way out of CSK’s reach, and the players went through the motions in a one-sided match.
