‘Crooked’ Jack Leach likely to miss India vs England 3rd Test

Why is Jack Leach not playing in IND vs ENG 2nd Test?

England’s veteran spinner Jack Leach is likely to miss the India vs England 3rd Test, starting on February 15 in Rajkot.

Leach sustained a knee injury while fielding on the first day of Hyderabad Test and was ruled out of the second Test.

England head coach Brendon McCullum revealed that Leach has also gone down with a virus and hasn’t trained with the squad since the first Test.

“I don’t really know [how the injury is] because he has been crook,” McCullum was quoted as saying to the Telegraph.

“His knee is pretty bad and it was remarkable he got through what he did in the first Test match. It is still pretty inflamed and he is back at the hotel pretty crook”, the former Kiwi skipper revealed.

McCullum also revealed that Ollie Pope and Tom Hartley played in second Test while battling with virus but stressed that the side will never use that as an excuse.

“We had a number of guys who were ill in the Test too and whether it was a virus or not we’re not sure. Ollie Pope and Tom Hartley in particular too but they did not want to shirk it. We will never use that as an excuse but hopefully that will subside in the next little while and we will see where Leachy sits for the next one”, McCullum added.
