Is all okay between Australian Cricket Team? This was the common question between fans when David Warner publicly hit back at Glenn Maxwell. Fresh from annihilating Netherlands in Cricket World Cup 2023, the Aussie duo were in the spotlight again, late on Wednesday night.
In the ongoing ICC World Cup 2023, New Delhi’s Arun Jaitley Stadium has seen some incredible matches, the most recent of which saw Australia record their second-largest victory in the ODI format. The five-time winners defeated The Netherlands by a massive margin of 309 runs after giving them a massive target of 400 runs.
Colorful fireworks and a light show lit up the stadium after Australia’s thrilling victory in Delhi. During the Netherlands’ chase, there was also a pounding sound and light show. The all-round player Glenn Maxwell was not amused and covered his eyes with both hands for the duration of the roughly two-minute show.

The World Cup record holder, Maxwell, criticized the mid-match nightclub-style light shows, calling them “the dumbest idea” and “shocking headaches.” Maxwell scored the fastest century in World Cup history in just 40 balls.
“Well, I had something like that light show happen at Perth Stadium during a Big Bash game,” Maxwell remarked following his man-of-the-match innings of 106 runs off 44 balls.
“And I just felt like it gave me shocking headaches and it takes me a while for my eyes to readjust and I just think it’s the dumbest idea for cricketers. So, I just try and cover up as much as I possibly can and ignore it but it’s a horrible, horrible idea. Great for the fans, horrible for the players.”
David Warner, on the other hand, feels differently about the light and sound spectacle. It was intended for the spectators who had arrived in big numbers to support the Australian team, according to the opening batter, who also scored 100 against the Netherlands.
“I absolutely loved the light show, what an atmosphere. It’s all about the fans. Without you all we won’t be able to do what we love,” Warner posted on X (formerly Twitter).
With nine fours and eight sixes in his 106 off 44 balls, Maxwell led Australia to 399-8, a score their bowlers easily defended as the Dutch were bowled out for just 90 in 21 overs in New Delhi.
India’s 317-run thumping of Sri Lanka earlier this year in Thiruvananthapuram maintains the record for the largest margin of victory in one-day international cricket.
