One of India’s biggest sporting achievements in history was their World Cup victory in 2011. The India vs. Sri Lanka final provided cricket fans with an unforgettable experience, while there were many moments during the campaign that had viewers on the edge of their seats. Indian fans almost filled the entire Wankhede Stadium on April 2, 2011, turning it into a sea of blue. The other Indians were glued to their televisions as they awaited the conclusion of the championship contest between the two hosts of the major event.
Mahela Jayawardene, who hit a fine 103, boosted Sri Lanka. It was a graceful and remarkable innings in a high-stakes, high-pressure game. The entire venue rose to its feet to applaud when he got to the landmark, and there were resounding cheers from the press box. The then-Sri Lankan captain, Kumar Sangakkara, hit a cool 48 while Nuwan Kulasekara and Thisara Perera quickly scored runs lower in the order to give India a daunting 275 to win the World Cup for the second time.

Tendulkar was dismissed for 18 runs shortly after Virender Sehwag was dismissed for a duck; both wickets were taken by Lasith Malinga, who is well-liked by the audience at the Wankhede thanks to his performances for the Mumbai Indians. As Malinga vowed to ruin India’s party that evening, there was hush throughout the area.
The Indian fightback was started by Gautam Gambhir, who had the help of a young Virat Kohli, before MS Dhoni unexpectedly entered the field before Yuvraj Singh and finished the job with his trademark calm. Gambhir has never lamented falling short of a century, and his 97 ranks among the best ODI performances by an Indian.
