Such has been his impact, and many experts believe an India call-up is not far away. With India set to play Afghanistan, West Indies and Ireland in the coming months, Tilak could very well find himself in the national team. Childhood coach Salam Bayash believes that a call-up could be within the next 5-6 months.

“This is the best time for him to play for the country as he is in great form. He has been learning a lot at MI from the likes of Rohit Sharma, Mark Boucher and Sachin Tendulkar. Being with them, Tilak has been able to soak up their wisdom and learn from their experiences. It is a great thing for the youngster. I am sure that he will play for India in the next year – maybe 5-6 months’ time,” said Bayash as quoted by Times of India.

Tilak is regarded as the future of Mumbai Indians and has been spending time with mentor Sachin Tendulkar. Bayash revealed that Tendulkar has given the young left-hander advice on being mentally tough.

“Sachin has been helping him a lot with his batting and also giving him tips to become mentally tough. I told him to soak up all that knowledge and to put that into practice,” Salam Bayash said.

Tilak Varma has continued his fine run of form this season. One of the breakout stars of last year, the Mumbai Indians starlet has turned into one of the mainstays this season. The 21-year-old is MI’s leading run-scorer this season. He has scored 177 runs in 4 games, at a stunning strike rate of 150.  The left-hander will be keen to continue his rich vein of form, especially on his return to Hyderabad.
