SRH vs DC: Veteran pacer Ishant Sharma turned back the hands for the Delhi Capitals, while captain David Warner corrected his trajectory to ensure the home team’s first victory in the IPL 2023 over Kolkata Knight Riders at the Arun Jaitley Stadium in Delhi. Ishant, who is 34 and far past his peak bowled a fantastic spell of 2/19 in 4 overs and took advantage of his first opportunity to hold KKR at bay. “I was just waiting for my chance. I wanted to win a game for the team whenever I got a chance,” Ishant stated at the post-matchpresentation. When asked if he had specific plans to a certain batter, he said, “Depends on what kind of plans you have. Matter of time when you want to execute your plans. There is no lucky charm in the team. We would want to win every game from here on, qualify and hopefully win the tournament.”
The DC bowling lineup collectively came to the party as KKR managed just 127 on an explosive wicket that benefited both pacers and spinners alike, giving them the victory they so desperately needed after five straight losses. Warner, DC’s top hitter this year, had been having trouble with his strike rate in previous games, but on Thursday, he hammered 57 off 41, helping the team reach the target with four balls remaining.
A below-par total may have saved the day for the home team since the DC batting, with the exception of Warner, once more appeared shaky as the ball started to grip in the second half of the chase, making strokeplay challenging. Despite suffering from a groin strain, Axar Patel led his side over the finish line with a score of 19 runs off 22 balls.
