Cricket Scotland under fire for prejudice against women, ‘evident sexism’

The findings of a report commissioned by Cricket Scotland point out the glaring sexism that exists and the prejudice towards women

Cricket Scotland has been rocked by the findings of a new report. The report which was commissioned by the board finds that sexism was very much evident and alive. It also goes on to claim that the team’s leadership in 2022 was “institutionally racist”.

Cricket Scotland prejudiced towards women?

Findings of the report:

  • 1. Evidence that over the years women have been treated differently from their male counterparts and that specific needs of women are often dismissed or not considered.
  • 2. That sexism is very much in evidence within the cricket game in Scotland. The examples show a high degree of prejudice and discrimination towards both female staff and players.
  • 3. No evidence to suggest that there are current examples of misogyny, which is described as a hatred of women.
  • 4. Root causes leading to sexism were identified, including the make-up of committees, embedded male behaviours and under representation of female game officials.
